"The High and the Flighty" (1956, Merrie Melody)

Here's one we've all seen, it's been released on video at least twice and appears to be one of the TV stations' favorites. But what is so interesting about this cartoon is that it is one of only two cartoons in which a major star from elsewhere in the Warner cartoon series ever teamed up with the Foghorn Leghorn bunch. The Foghorn series was exclusively made by Robert McKimson, and he had a likable formula of making situation humor using a lot of characters at once, be it something like Foghorn, Henery Hawk and Barnyard Dawg (several films) or Foghorn, a worm, and a cat, ("A Fractured Leghorn"). This would be the second and final time to use a guest star, though, the first being Sylvester in "Crowing Pains" (1947). Daffy Duck, as he appears in several 1950's cartoons by McKimson and occasionally other directors, is a salesman looking for a sucker. His wares include practical jokes like the springbone and the "pipe Fulla Fun Kit Number 7", which he uses to fuel the feud between Foghorn and the dog by selling to them both. When Foghorn and Dawg figure out what's going on, they use the pipe kit against Daffy, stuffing him into a milk bottle. Foghorn gets the idea that there "just might be a market for bottled duck". This film has all three of its characters at their best.
