"Tom Turk and Daffy" (1944)- Looney Tune

director: Chuck Jones

animation: Ken Harris

story: "The Staff"

music: Carl Stalling

Daffy Duck, singing "Jingle Bells" and building a snowman, is distracted by gunfire. A panicked turkey, Tom, confronts him and asks to be hidden from Porky, the Pilgrim Pig! Daffy, after much thought and pain for the turkey, decides to finally stuff the bird into his snowman. Porky, predictably, asks Daffy where Tom is. Daffy won't talk ( "I'm no stool pigeon!") Porky walks away, dejected. He mutters what he was going to have with his Thanksgiving dinner ("Chestnut dressing, cranberry sauce, m-m-mashed potatoes and green peas...and y-yes, c-c-candied yams!"). Daffy can't contain himself any longer, and utters one of the most memorable lines in all Looney Tunes: "The YAMS did it! The YAMS did it!!!!" and points to the snowman. Tom burrows under the snow and plucks his tail feathers off, sticking them on Daffy instead! Daffy, unable to get the feathers off, is chased by Porky through the ice and snow. After a snowball fight, (including one snowball containing duck AND mallet!) After Daffy tries to hold Porky at bay with hard objects sculpted from frozen water, he finds Tom, now rebuilding the snowman. This time it's Daffy who wants Tom to hide him, and so Tom tries all the ridiculous and painful places Daffy stuck him into in the beginning!

This cartoon is unusual in the fact that its writing credits went to the entire staff as opposed to one single writer, (During this time period for Jones it would've been Michael Maltese or Tedd Pierce). Also, although un-credited, it is believed that the wonderful stylized winter landscapes in the backgrounds were created by Bernice Polifka.
