"The Wild Chase" (1964, Merrie Melodies)

The ultimate challenge-who would win in a race: Road Runner or Speedy Gonzales? Friz Freleng's first and only Road Runner film answers that burning question-sort of. The answer? Neither one! It's a shame that this monumental cartoon is only special in its concept and character combination. It's little more than a cheap cost-cutter, reusing Chuck Jones' animation from Road Runner cartoons, some of which were created some ten years earlier. The new animation is easy to spot, and most of it is pretty limited.  After several tries, the pair of Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote don't succeed at catching their prey, but they do accidentally win the race in their out of control rocket car.
